a village bakery ...
In 1977, Gilles and Marie-Jo Fonteneau bought the small bakery in the village of Chavagnes-en-Paillers, in the heart of the Vendée bocage; a bakery in which Gilles had completed his apprenticeship in baking and pastry-making.
Lovers of the Vendée’s gourmet heritage, they quickly developed a passion for making Vendée brioches and gâches, to which they devoted all their energy.
Very quickly, they began offering their brioches to supermarkets in the Vendée and Nantes regions, where they immediately attracted fans. It was in his two horse-drawn van that Gilles delivered his first shops.

The Vendée brioche,
AN INCOMPARABLE CERTIFIED PRODUCT!
In 1995, their passion for local Vendée products led them to participate in the creation of the Association de la Brioche Vendéenne (ABV).
Grouping together the bakers (craftsmen and companies) and the suppliers of the main raw materials.
It is thanks to this approach that the “Brioche Vendéenne” and “Gâche Vendéenne” have obtained IGP and LABEL Rouge certification.
The ABV is now called the Brioche section and is part of the ODG Vendée Qualité.


A mastered
growth
Shortly afterwards, the brioche and gâche were given pride of place by supermarket chains with local and premium private labels.
At the end of the 1990s, Brioches Fonteneau became the first manufacturer of IGP and Label Rouge Vendée brioches and cakes.
To ensure its sustainability and financial independence, the company has always maintained a steady growth rate, supported by a controlled and progressive investment policy.


Since then, the small bakery has grown considerably.
Since 2017, Mathieu and Christine, the 2nd generation, have taken over the company alongside a team of 240 employees spread over 3 manufacturing sites.
Today the company produces over 30,000,000 brioches sold in France and abroad. The company continues to develop while maintaining a taste for tradition, proximity and creativity.
